Let's Make History Together
The St. Louis National Charity Horse Show upholds tradition by awarding these Irish crystal trophies annually.
Lake St. Louis, MO – July 23, 2024 – The historic St. Louis National Charity Horse Show to be held September 11-15, 2024, is preparing for their 46th horse show. Steeped with history dating back to 1856, the horse show honors tradition including the ASPCA Maclay Medal. While many charity horse shows have gone by the wayside, the St. Louis Charity Show continues to support local charities annually.
The Horse Show Old and New
The St. Louis National Charity Horse Show at the St. Louis Arena.
The horse show can be traced back to 1856 when the first St. Louis National Horse Show was a main attraction at the inaugural St. Louis Fair held at Fairgrounds Park. In 1904, the show was part of the World's Fair in Forest Park. In the ensuing years, the show had several homes including the old St. Louis Arena.

The show was on hiatus for 25 years, until 1978 when a group of St. Louis area horsemen resurrected the show at Queeny Park, which is where it remained until relocating to the National Equestrian Center in 1999. The show hosts both hunter/ jumper and saddlebred competitions annually, attracting top horses and riders from around the country.
Facility Improvements
Fast forward to 2024, the facility was recently purchased by St. Charles County Parks and Recreation. The County has already updated the electrical and fire safety systems and wi-fi and sound systems. The Parks Department horticultural staff members are currently improving landscaping and new arena lighting is planned for this summer.
Show manager Sarah Jackson.
New show manager Sarah Jackson, has been organizing staff and equipment and making recommendations for the fall show.
While looking forward to change, the horse show holds fast to tradition such as the gorgeous Irish crystal trophies handed out each year and the hand-painted sponsor medallions, created and maintained by volunteers, that don the walls of the facility.
The Region V ASPCA Maclay Regional Returns
A few lucky exhibitors will be able to qualify for the ASPCA Maclay Medal Finals through the St. Louis Regional. Judges this year are Ginny Edwards, Caitlin Venezia, and Mindy Coleman.
Equitation - Area Championships
The National Horse Show Area Championships are hosted at the show.
The St. Louis National Charity Horse Show will host the Area Championships for the Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3” Equitation Championship and the THIS NHS Adult Equitation Championship.
These classes are to be used to gain valuable experience competing in a Championship format. The Champion, Reserve Champion, and third place finishers from each Area Championship, if not otherwise qualified, will receive invitations to compete in the Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3” Equitation Finals or the THIS Adult Equitation Finals provided they have points from competing in the Hamel or THIS classes in the same competition year. Let’s make history together at the 46th Annual St. Louis National Charity Horse Show!
The St. Louis National Charity Horse Show is proud to support two amazing non-profit organizations in our community: Stray Rescue of St. Louis, an organization dedicated to finding new life for stray animals of St. Louis, and TREE House of Greater St. Louis, a therapeutic horsemanship center for people with disabilities and their families. Over the last five years, we have proudly donated over $115,000 to these charities. Together, we work to improve the lives of both people and animals through our events and the organizations they benefit.
